St George's Conservation Area

St George's Conservation Area

St George's Conservation Area was originally designated in May 1989, and covered an area of approximately 5.73 hectares. The conservation area was enlarged in 2003, and further enlarged in 2010. It now extends to approximately 10.99 hectares. The conservation area includes St George's Churchyard and parts of Rutland Street, Humberstone Gate and Wharf Street South.

In July 2003, the Council approved a Character Statement as supplementary planning guidance to the City of Leicester Local Plan. An Addendum and Review of the July 2003 Character Statement was approved by the Council on 19th January 2010 and should be read in conjunction with the Character Statement. The St George’s North and South Area Strategy Guidance was adopted by the City Council on 27 June 2005.
