New Walk Conservation Area

New Walk Conservation Area

The New Walk Conservation Area was designated in March 1969, and has an area of approximately 29.67 hectares, and  is the second-largest conservation area in the City. You can view a map of the New Walk Conservation Area.

It was one of the first three conservation areas to be declared in Leicester (the others being Castle Gardens and Cathedral-Guildhall). This large conservation area includes the whole of New Walk, and also incorporates the area around Tower Street and Leicester Prison, and much of Regent Road and Princess Road.

The City Council adopted the New Walk Conservation Area Character Statement in March 2004.

Some properties in this conservation area are covered by the Holy Trinity Article Four Direction, which limits the rights of householders to carry out work to their properties without planning permission. Part of the conservation area has been designated as an Area of Special Advertisement Control.
