Planning Guidance from Leicester City Council
The council has adopted a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) on Residential Amenity. This provides guidance for house builders, developers, architects and anyone wanting to extend their home. The document aims to ensure that all new residential development in the city is sensitively designed and of a high quality.

Informal Advice from Leicester City Council
To obtain an informal view from the City Council to see if you need planning permission, please download, print and complete the Permitted Development Enquiry Form at the bottom of this page. Please read the Permitted Development Guidance Notes (also at the bottom of this page) before completing the form to make sure you provide us with all the necessary details to deal with your enquiry. There is no charge for this service. We aim to provide you with a response within ten working days, although at busy times, this may be extended a little.

Formal Opinion from Leicester City Council
If you would like a formal opinion from the City Council to see if your proposed development can be carried out without making a formal application, then you can apply for a Certificate of Lawful Development.
