Leicester City Council is preparing a series of important planning documents to guide development and change in the City over the next 20 years. These will set out where homes are built, where new jobs are created and where new jobs are created and where leisure activities and essential services should be built.
The government has identified Leicester as an area where 24,500 homes should be built by 2026. This level of growth will help to keep housing affordable and boost the local economy with new jobs. We have an opportunity to improve the quality of life in Leicester, whilst we make sure we keep what is special and unique about our City. There are some big questions, such as:
The choices that we make about one issue will have an impact on another. For example if we choose to build at a higher density it will reduce the need to develop on green sites and help protect the natural environment.
