LDF Core Strategy Sustainability Appraisal

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 requires that emerging Development Plan Documents (DPDs), should be subject to a process of sustainability appraisal and will be undertaken in line with government guidance ‘Sustainability Appraisal of Regional Spatial Strategies and Local Development Documents’ (2005). As set out in the  guidance, the SA of the Core Strategy will incorporate the requirements of European Union Directive 2001/42/EC more commonly known as the Strategic Environmental Directive (SEA)

The role of SA is to assess the extent to which policies or proposals will help to achieve environmental, social and economic objectives and assess how DPDs contribute to the achievement of sustainable development priorities. The SA is an ongoing process which is undertaken throughout the preparation of a plan or strategy.

The Draft Scoping Report was consulted on between 14th May and 15th June 2007 and the draft document can downloaded from here.

This has since been amended to incorporate comments received during the consultation. The Final Version of the Scoping Report is available here.

During the Discussion Document consultation a draft Environmental Report was also consulted on which appraised the various options which had formed the Issues and Options document plus any additional options which come forward through consultation to form the basis of the preferred strategy. This can be downloaded from here.

An amended Environmental report and an Habitats Regulations (Appropriate Assessment) Screening Report have been produced to accompany Submission draft of the Core Strategy. More information can be found here.
