City of Leicester Local Plan

The City of Leicester Local Plan covers the period up to 2016, and was adopted in January 2006.

The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 introduced a new planning system of Local Development Frameworks to replace Local Plans.  Local Plan policies saved after adoption of the Core Strategy in November 2010 are included in the Local Development Framework, as part of the Development Plan.

Saved Policies

As part of the transitionary arrangements for the 2004 Act, local plan policies were saved for 3 years from adoption in January 2006.  A direction letter from the Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM) identified policies to be saved after January 2009.

This has been superseded by the Core Strategy, adopted on 25 November 2010, and which includes a list of local plan policies saved.

The on line version of the Local Plan Written Statement and the Proposals Map is being amended accordingly. The text of the remaining Local Pan policies and the Proposals Map can be viewed by clicking on the appropriate entry in the list to the left.

Other site specific policies and allocations may be replaced by the Site Allocations Development Plan Document scheduled for adoption in 2013.
