More than 70 people recently gathered and enjoyed a slice of an enormous cake decorated with the number 940. That is the number of people who have been supported back to work over the past two years through the network of eight City Council run Multi-Access Centres that span the city.
Assistant Mayor Ted Cassidy presented awards to the following people who had been nominated for their particular persistence in finding work;
- Tina Degio received an award for the Outstanding MAC Achiever
- Outstanding MAC Learner went to Anthony Pope
- The In-Work Support Achiever went to Baljit Bhogal
- MAC Champion Awards for each of the centres went to;
Usha Gajjar, Jackie Eden, Razina Mussa, Aninha Cruz, Chris Neal, Sally Freer,
Quintino Gomes, Daphne Bunett and Shakil Farouk.
John Lewis also received an award for their support in taking on many people referred from the MACs. Helen Boon from John Lewis Leicester which secured the award for Outstanding MAC Employer said;
“We have been very actively engaged with the MAC Network and particularly One Skilled Workforce from the Chamber of Commerce to provide opportunities for local residents. As a result over the past 3 years we have employed over 300 people. I am delighted to accept this award on behalf of the Company and all those who have been involved”.
The Multi-Access Centre network includes facilities in the City Centre, Highfields, St Matthews, Braunstone, Saffron, New Parks, Northfields and Beaumont Leys.
