As part of the ongoing improvements to
De Montfort University and the surrounding area, there is a requirement for realignment of the existing carriageway around and on the approach to the Magazine Building.
The scheme realigns both the clockwise and anticlockwise directions of the inner ring road A594, to the Eastern side of the Magazine Building, freeing up the Magazine from the ring road and reinstating its position as it was originally intended.
These improvements will involve the diversion of existing services, demolition and filling of the pedestrian subways, new traffic light systems, new surface level crossings, repaving of pedestrian areas and provide the setting for two new public open squares.
Works have been phased to minimise disruption to traffic flows, residents and businesses, so that any impact upon the immediate area is kept to a minimum. Works will be completed by August 2008.
