Environment City
Leicester City Council has played an active role in encouraging and supporting measures which protect our environment.
Leicester became Britain's first "Environment City" in 1990. In 1992, we were one of twelve world cities invited to attend the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro.
Since then we adopted numerous green policies to ensure our services and activities meet the high standards we encourage others to adopt.

This Europe-wide scheme will helps us to manage and improve our environmental performance, helping the council authority to achieve sustainable development in everything we do.
Each Year an EMAS Public Environmental Statement is produced; you can view the Environmental Statement here.
