Environmental Statement 2007/08

Environmental Statement 2007/08

The Council operates to the exacting European EMAS (Eco Management and Audit Scheme) standard for managing its environmental impact.  Each year, we produce an Environmental Statement so that the people of Leicester can judge the environmental performance of their council.  This is the most recent Statement that covers the period April 2007 – March 2008.

The pdf version of the Statement below is searchable from its Contents Page.

Environmental Policy - December 2008

Environmental Policy

Leicester City Council is committed to transforming Leicester into "Britain's sustainable city".  This is the overall goal of the One Leicester 25 year vision for the city, which the Council is working towards in partnership with other key organisations.

Our Environmental Policy supports this goal, focusing on reducing our carbon footprint, creating a quality local environment and the wise use of natural resources.

Climate Change Strategy

The City of Leicester recognises the potential implications that climate change has for the environmental, economic, and social well being of the city and the wider world. It also recognises that it has a responsibility to minimise the impacts of climate change caused by, and affecting, the people of Leicester. The Leicester Environment Partnership have therefore developed a Climate Change Strategy for the city to stimulate public debate, raise awareness, and initiate a plan of action to minimise these impacts and effects.

Guide to Environment Friendly Purchasing

The purpose of this guide is to help minimise Leicester City Council’s impact on the environment by providing staff with information and practical help to assist them to buy or specify products which cause the least environmental damage.
It sets out Council policy on environmental purchasing and gives tips and advice on how to find products which will be effective, of value for money and do least harm to the environment.

Leicester Environmental Strategy

The Leicester Environment Strategy has been developed by the Leicester Environment Partnership which is made up of representatives from many organisations with environmental interests and responsibilities in Leicester.  The  strategy sets out a comprehensive vision, backed up by strategic aims, objectives and targets covering all of the main environmental issues faced by the city of Leicester.
