During Fairtrade Fortnight 2011 the Leicester Advocating Fairtrade group will be showing their support for Fairtrade with events taking place in the run up to and throughout Fairtrade Fortnight.

 

Below is a selection of the events being held, come along and join us to show your support for Fairtrade.

Bunting Decorating Sessions

Tuesday 22nd February and Wednesday 23rd February

At Just; The Fair Trade Shop, St Martin’s Square, Leicester

 

Drop in anytime between 11am till 3pm and enjoy a FREE activity suitable for all ages. Use your imagination and creativity to decorate a bunting triangle using a mix of resources including special marker pens, fabric and decorations to sewing and glue on. Use your bunting triangle to say what you love about Fairtrade. See your triangle added to the string of bunting made by people from all over Leicester.

Fairtrade Fortnight Big Bunting Party

Saturday 12th March St Martin’s Square

11am to 3pm

 

Come and join in, Taste samples of yummy Fairtrade goodies from Midlands Co-operative and The Just Shop, listen to live music from De Montfort University’s fabulous Gospel Choir, See the home made bunting flapping in the breeze showing Leicester’s support for Fairtrade and Make a triangle yourself to add to the ever growing string of bunting made by schools and community groups from all over Leicester and Hear the stories of how Fairtrade is transforming the lives of cotton farmers in India and Africa giving them hope for a brighter future for themselves, their families and their communities.

Lots of special Fairtrade offers will be available throughout the fortnight including buy one get one free, 25% reductions and other benefits relating to certain Fairtrade products on sale in the refectories.  Also in keeping with this year’s theme of ‘Show us your label’ there will a Fairtrade cotton bunting decorating competition with a first prize of a MP4 player being given to the designer of the best one.  The competition will be taking place at all campuses at lunchtimes in the social spaces areas supervised by the Learner engagement and enrichment team.

Sunday 27th February - Coffee tasting in conjunction with Coffee Rio at St. Katherine's Church, Burbage at 12 noon

Monday 28th February - Fairtrade market stall in Hinckley Market, Castle Street

Monday 28th February - Fairtrade tea/coffee at the Tea Dances at the George Ward Centre, Barwell, 2-4pm

Tuesday 1st March - Wriggly Readers at Hinckley Library at 9.45 am and 10.45 am with bananas handed out by the Mayor. Also coffee mornings between 9.45 am and 12 noon at the Library

Wednesday 2nd March - Fairtrade food tasting sessions at the Heart of England Co-op in Castle Street

Thursday 3rd March - Chocolate fountain at the Vine Christian Bookshop, 10am – 5pm

Friday 4th March - Women's World Day of Prayer event at St. John’s church, Coventry Road

Saturday 5th March - Fairtrade stall at Burbage Methodist Church during the Farmers Market

Sunday 6th March - Fairtrade stall at St. Catherine’s Church, Burbage and Hinckley Baptist Church

Monday 7th March - Fairtrade market stall in Hinckley Market, Castle Street

Monday 7th March - Fairtrade tea/coffee at the Tea Dances at the George Ward Centre, Barwell, 2-4pm
