Gypsy And Traveller Sites

For years Leicester has experienced problems with unauthorised Gypsy and Traveller camps, which can have a big impact on local communities.  To help resolve this issue, in 2012 Leicester City Council proposed building new authorised Gypsy and Traveller sites.

A consultation was launched in February 2012 on three potential new sites.  The City Mayor has now considered the results of the consultation and the many views expressed in writing, via email and in person and he has now announced which of the proposed sites he intends to take forward.

A full statement from the City Mayor setting out his decision can be downloaded here, (82kb) however the key points are:

1.       Beaumont Way is not suitable for a site

2.       Greengate Lane is suitable for a permanent site containing up to 6 pitches

3.       Red Hill Way is suitable for a permanent site containing up to 10 pitches

4.       Further work will be undertaken to explore potential additional sites, including those at Hoods Close and Ratby Lane.
