Housing Allocations Policy

We have made changes to the way we prioritise people on the Housing Register in Leicester. We have changed from a points based scheme to a banding scheme effective from August 2011.

This means applicants circumstances are assessed and placed in one of five bands for allocation purposes.

Those households placed into Band One have the most urgent housing need. Those in Band Two have a higher need than those in Band Three, and so forth.

Within a Band, priority is determined by the date the application was placed in that Band, with the person who has been waiting the longest within that Band having the highest priority.

Choice-based lettings

The Council and participating housing association partners let their available homes through a choice-based lettings scheme called Leicester HomeChoice.

Available homes are advertised on www.leicesterhomechoice.co.uk and applicants can apply for those homes they like.

Homes are allocated using a banding scheme and you will only be considered for properties that meet your individual needs.

Re-let standards

At Leicester City Council we believe our properties should be in a good state of repair and clean, so that you can enjoy your new home straight away.

Before you move in we will ensure your new home meets the Minimum Re-let Standard for Leicester City Council properties.
