Help for disabled people

We offer a number of home adaptation services for people with physical disabilities. These include grab rails, ramps, stair lifts, ground floor bathroom extensions, over-bath and walk-in showers and other home support items to help with day-to-day living.

A professional Housing technician, who will visit your home with an occupational therapist to make sure the work meets your needs, carries out all installation work.

We also offer a specialist Adapted Housing Matching Service that matches people with physical disabilities with suitable homes according to their needs and abilities.

There are also 14 Leicester City Council sheltered housing schemes throughout the City, providing independent accommodation for older and disabled people in purpose-built flats and studio flats. Each sheltered housing property is fitted with a LeicesterCare emergency alarm system, and Sheltered Housing Officers contact tenants to check that they are ok on a daily basis.

Six of the sheltered housing schemes have recently been accredited with the RNIB ‘Visibly Better’ award for improvements for people with visual impairment. Similar improvements are currently being introduced to other sheltered housing schemes across Leicester.

All sheltered housing schemes also accept Assistance Dogs and have Hearing Loops fitted.
