Access to affordable housing in the City is problematic for many single people and it is difficult to secure their own housing due to employment status, low income and other barriers that often prevent them from finding their own accommodation.
Leicester City Council’s Housing Options Service is pleased to be launching its first Shared House Guarantee Scheme.
This scheme is available for landlords that wish to use a 3 bed
dwelling as a shared house. The advice may also be useful for
landlords who run shared houses, who find their own tenants
and that would accept referrals from the Leicester City Council’s
Housing Options Service.
A shared house would be for a minimum of 2 and up to a
maximum of 4 separate individuals that would share the facilities
within the property such as the kitchen, bathroom and communal
areas. The property can be let furnished or unfurnished.
Where there are 3 or more individuals sharing a property, the
property is defined as a ‘House in Multiple Occupation’ and there
may be additional requirements that would need to be met.
What we require from our landlords

A valid Gas Safety Certificate obtained from a Gas Safe registered engineer

A valid Electrical Periodic Inspections Report provided by an registered NIC ECI / ECA engineer

A valid Energy Performance Certificate (rated C and above)

A valid Buildings Insurance Certificate for the property

Room sizes to be of an adequate size for all prospective tenants sharing a property (8sq metres is the preferred minimum for an individuals room)

No admin fee charges

Landlords must not reside within the property
