Built in 1913, De Montfort Hall is a multi-purpose arts and entertainment venue, with a particular focus on music including classical, jazz, blues, world, folk, rock and pop. It is Leicester's main venue for concerts and also hosts a wide range of events including stand-up comedy, musicals and opera.
Attractions
A residency undertaken at the Hall by the world famous Philharmonia Orchestra has resulted in a thriving classical audience while a broadening of the musical spectrum in terms of programming is drawing in a wider range of people than ever before.
The main auditorium also hosts big name comedy stars, children’s shows and West End musicals, while an outdoor amphitheatre provides an excellent arena for summer festivals and concerts.
Access and seating
Refurbishment work has improved access around the Hall, with level access throughout the foyer and a lift to the circle bars and seating area.
Flexible seating system in the auditorium means that formats can be changed depending on the requirements of the production. Capacities can range from approximately 1,400 / 1,600 (tiered seating) to 2,200 (standing). Outdoors, the amphitheatre caters for audiences from 500 to 5,000. For a more intimate atmosphere, the Hall can also be set in a 'cabaret’ style with tables and a dance floor, where drinks can be taken in during the performance.
