The celebration
Leicester hosted the Olympic Torch Relay Evening Celebration, an evening of entertainment including the lighting of the Celebration Cauldron by the final Torchbearer.

The evening celebrations started at 4.00pm with activities, demonstrations and displays based around the themes of sport, health, play, culture and a showcase of Inspire projects. The full programme can be found below as an attachment.
Performing that evening
On stage alongside national acts and Olympic content, there was a high energy dance show featuring some of the city’s finest performers. There was also be a parade by Leicester swimming teams to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of Leicester born Jenny Fletcher, an Olympic swimming gold medalist in 1912.
The Philharmonia presented a special performance of ‘Bamboozled’, a high energy, audience participation piece featuring Leicester schools accompanied by a specially recorded video performance by the orchestra. The main Olympic sponsors brought their top shows to the Abbey Park stage, including international circus troupes and musical acts such as Morning Parade.
The 2012 Olympic Torch Relay
The Olympic Flame arrived in Leicester at 5.45pm, at the top of London Road. It was then carried through the city, by specially selected torchbearers, to Abbey Park, where it arrived at 6.44pm.
People lined the streets and watched the Torch as it made its way from the National Space Centre to Leicester North Train Station on the morning of Tuesday 3rd July as the torch left Leicester.
