The Story of Leicester Plan
A new plan to tell the Story of Leicester, which includes developing and promoting the historic heart of the city, has been devised.
The Story of Leicester Plan includes a wide range of initiatives which together will help both local people and visitors to the city to find out more about its history.
The plan includes:

New “Story of Leicester” web-pages on the City Council’s website.

A “Story of Leicester” introductory gallery at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

A new gallery dedicated to Leicester and the Arts and Crafts Movement featuring our important Gimson furniture collection.
-
An Early Leicester gallery in vacant space at Newarke Houses.
-
Improved heritage interpretation in the historic heart of the city.
-
Improvements to our important built heritage and historic environment, for example the recently announced Jubilee Square development.

Events and exhibitions to mark important anniversaries and centenaries such as the arrival of Ugandan Asians in Leicester 40 years ago in 2012.

Telling the stories of communities and neighbourhoods through exhibitions and projects in libraries.
- Encouraging our children to enjoy the Story of Leicester and feel part of it.
