Laurel Aitken, Musician, 1925-2005
A blue plaque celebrating Laurel Aitken is located on the wall of his former home in Munnings Close, St Mark's Estate, Leicester
The plaque was granted by the Heritage Foundation.
Laurel Aitken was born in Cuba but raised in Jamaica. He moved to London in 1960 and to Leicester in 1971. He died in July 2005.
Laurel was known as the Godfather of Ska, and led the band The Pressure Tenants. He was renowned as a major influence on bands such as Madness, The Specials and Bad Manners.
