Benjamin Burrows was one of Leicester's most remarkable musicians. Born into a musical family, he won a prize for young musicians at the age of 15. In 1910 he became the organist at St. Mary de Castro Church, Leicester, and went on to take his Bachelor of Music degree in 1913. He was not just a single-minded musician, but also excelled as a micro-biologist, precision engineer and inventor. At the time of his death, Burrows had written over 150 songs, numerous choral works, several instrumental sonatas, string quartets, organ works and piano pieces.
