Charles Percy Snow was born on 15 October 1905 at 40 Richmond Road, Leicester, the second of four sons. With his brothers, he attended a small private school on Aylestone Road and then Alderman Newton's School.
C P Snow was an outstanding scholar and athlete, and in 1930 became a Fellow of Christ's College, Cambridge. At Leicester he had edited the University College magazine and other publications, and continued to write while pursuing a scientific career.
The first of his eleven novels 'Death Under Sail' was published in 1932, but he is perhaps better known for 'Strangers and Brothers' and 'Corridors of Power'. He was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Technology in 1964. Soon after this he was made a Life Peer, choosing the title of Lord Snow of the City of Leicester. 1n 1966 C P Snow resigned his post and turned wholly to writing. He died in 1980, and his ashes were incorporated in the base of a memorial urn in the Fellows' Garden at Christ's College, Cambridge.
