E PHILLIPS OPPENHEIM, Novelist, 1866-1946
The Blue Plaque is located at the site of his home, The Cedars, Main Street, Evington, now a public house.
E Phillips Oppenheim lived at The Cedars in Evington from 1897 to 1905. He was the author of many romantic novels which are still well represented on library shelves. 'Mr Marx's Secret', published in 1899, has a Leicestershire setting and 'The Kingdom of the Blind', published in 1916 was thought to be his best novel. Probably his most successful novel was 'The Great Impersonation', which was published in 1920 and sold over 1 million copies.
