The Cinema Heritage Plaque scheme
'Cinema 100' was introduced by the
British Film Institute in 1996 to mark the centenary of cinema.
Richard Attenborough lived in Leicester from 1932 , when his father became Principal of University College, Leicester. His mother, Mrs F.L. Attenborough, was the president of Leicester Drama Society for several years in the 1930s and the young Richard acted in many productions at the Little Theatre from the age of eight. Lord Attenborough became Life President of the Little Theatre.
The wording on plaque reads:
Actor and film-maker
RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH
in recognition of his outstanding
contribution to British cinema
The plaque is located in the foyer of the Little Theatre, Dover Street.
