Simon de Montfort (ca 1208-1265)
Simon de Montfort was born in Normandy, but came to England in 1229. In 1238, he married King Henry III's sister, and was invested with the Earldom of Leicester in 1239. Following a dispute with the King, he formed what some regard as the first Parliament in 1265. However, he was killed in battle at Evesham that year. He spent little time in Leicester, his only real connection being his title.
