Sir Thomas White (1492-1567)

Sir Thomas White was Lord Mayor of London and the founder of St John's College, Oxford in 1555. His right to be considered a benefactor of Leicester resides in the loan scheme he inaugurated in 1551, which provided assistance for young men to set themselves up in business.
