Conversation Piece

This work was commissioned by Leicester City Council's Planning Committee, along with James Walter Butler's Seamstress, as part of the Council's City Centre Action Programme.

The sculptor was Kevin Atherton. The statue comprises three groups, each of three busts in bronze. The heads are mounted on Plexiglass pedestals, facing inwards towards each other, as if having a conversation. Each group was to be located in a major shopping street, the concept being the idea of gossip or conversation being conveyed around the city.

The three sculptures were unveiled in July 1990, and were originally located in Market Street, Cheapside and Gallowtree Gate. However, they became the subject of vandalism, and were removed into store.
