St Margaret

image of unveiling ceremony
A statue of St Margaret, carved from Portland limestone by Leicestershire artist Pamela Beresford (1914-1985), was relocated to St Margaret's Church, St Margaret's Way, in 2007. The statue was unveiled by Lord Mayor Gary Hunt in July 2007.

The statue formerly stood over the doorway of the Corah factory on Vaughan Way. The factory supplied knitwear to Marks & Spencer under the St Margaret's brand, but the sculpture was taken down when the factory closed in the 1980s.

The £11,500 needed to move the statue was raised through a donation from the Frederick Widdowson Fund, a charity, and a £2,000 grant from Leicester City Council.
