Jenny Grevatte: A Painter’s Progress

A collaborative project between New Walk Museum & Art Gallery and Embrace Arts at the RA Centre.
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery will be displaying the results of Jenny Grevatte’s major project as artist in residence in 2009, inspired by artworks in its permanent collection.
Grevatte has been privileged to see and work with the Fine Art collection that has been housed in the museum and gallery for over 130 years. She has viewed and been inspired by many of the artists in the collection including Peter Doig, Harold Gilman, Evelyn Williams, Kathe Kollwitz and Prunella Clough.
A selection of her working drawings and sketchbooks will be on display alongside her final pieces, showing how Jenny has taken inspiration from these artists and developed new ideas of her own.
Some of the works that have inspired them will also be on display. Through this response Grevatte hopes to reveal to the visitor how the artistic process works and to demonstrate how complex that creative journey can be.
This exhibition runs concurrently with a retrospective of Jenny Grevatte's work at Embrace Arts at the RA centre, Lancaster Road, Leicester.

Jenny Grevatte
Jenny Grevatte grew up in Leicester and trained at De Montfort University. She has developed a national career whilst living in the county. In 1992 she had a show at New Walk Museum that travelled to the Saarland, Germany.
Jenny Grevatte has previously exhibited at Browse and Darby, Cork Street, London; the Abbot Hall Art Gallery, Kendal; Cambridge Contemporary Art; New Ashgate Gallery, Surrey; John Davies Gallery, Cotswolds; and the Great Atlantic Gallery, Cornwall.

Project Film
A film by Alex J Wright has been specially commissioned to record Jenny at work on this project both in her studio and on location.
