The Rutland Dinosaur is back!

 



The Dinosaur, a Cetiosaurus, is taking centre stage in the new exhibition that shows extinct animals were not ‘prehistoric monsters’ but living and breathing creatures. Discover what life was like millions of years ago and see how the world and the living things on it change constantly over time. Explore lost worlds and find out how dinosaurs and other prehistoric animals lived.

Suitable for all ages, the gallery includes new dinosaur interactives, hands-on activities and cutting edge reconstructions of marine reptiles.

Enjoy a free guided tour of the beautiful and historic Belgrave Gardens. Find out how the gardens have developed since 1709 and learn about some of the interesting and unusual plants.

Wednesday Hall Tours

Belgrave Hall Museum & Gardens
Enjoy a free guided tour of Belgrave Hall. Learn about the families who lived here, how the use of the Hall has changed since it was built in 1709, as well as the ghostly sightings and phenomena that attract visitors from across the country.

A Royal Scarecrow Festival Fun Day

Come along and meet the Royal Scarecrows at this event organised by Girl guiding Birstall. With many scarecrows to discover in the museum gardens, stalls, afternoon teas, children's crafts and activities plus a campfire sing song. Any Guide, Scout or community groups wishing to contribute a scarecrow to display at this event please contact Helen: 0773 209 9479. £2.00 for activities.

Suits & Saris: Music & Dance Festival

2Funky Arts explores the themes of Suits & Saris and presents an evening of Eastern and Western music and dance. Think Bollywood break dancers, MC’s in saris, singers in suits and a funky fusion of East meets West! Teddies ‘Jubilee’ Railway Day

Abbey Pumping Station

Celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 60th year reign and dress your teddy in Red, White and Blue. All teddies and their owners can have a free ride on the museum’s railway. Picnic tables and refreshments available. Free / small charge for train rides.

Arts & Museums Learning: Jubilee Creativity

Join us for a fun filled afternoon with The Spark’s BIG Jubilee Lunch. Interactive entertainment with street performers, visually stunning antics, things to make and do and a big band to keep everyone in the party spirit. Bring your picnic, your big hat for the parade and get involved with the BIG Lunch! 

If you forget your lunch, don’t panic!  You can purchase sandwiches, cakes and drinks from Autograph Café situated in New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

Celebrate the Jubilee Weekend

Newarke Houses Museum & Gardens
Join the Jubilee celebrations in Newarke Houses Museum Gardens. Bring your own picnic to eat in our tranquil garden. Dress code: red, white and blue! Take part in the Jubilee trail or enjoy the craft activities including design your own flag, make your own souvenir badge or make your own bunting to hang in your room. £2.50 for activities.

Calling all mini makers! Come along and explore our new Under 5’s gallery with our creative facilitators, then join in with our creative activities and immerse yourself in art. Please dress for mess, this means adults too! We do supply aprons, however we recommend you wear old clothes. Drop-in event, £3.00 per child.

Lantern Making

Cut out and decorate a paper lantern to take along to the Jubilee beacon lighting event at Abbey Park in the evening. All materials provided, including a small LED candle, suitable for all ages, drop-in event, £2.50

Celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee by decorating a ceramic item to keep, along with a crown to wear at your street party. A royal themed trail around the museum. Refreshments available, £2.00 for activities.

Half Term Fun: Model Making Madness!

Play, build and get messy with clay and lots of other materials. Use your imagination to create your own models and sculptures to take home and keep. Museum trails throughout the day, £2.50 for activities.

Carry on with the Jubilee celebrations at Belgrave Hall’s Jubilee Street Party. Come dressed in your fancy dress costume, hunt for diamonds and join the end of day parade. Bring your own picnic or buy lunch from Initial Caterings event café. £2.50 for activities.

Babbling Vagabonds Present The Buried Moon

Have a go at making your very own shadow puppet monster. Working with our puppeteers, learn some simple tricks to transform everyday materials into groovy spooky shadow puppets to take home. Then join the babbling vagabonds for a performance as they conjure up the best bedtime adventure that there ever was. Part of the Spark Children’s Arts Festival. Suitable for 5 - 11 years, early booking recommended. Performance £4.50, workshop £3.50.

Little Scribblers Art Club: Playing with Printing
Saturday 16th June
11.00am – 1.00pm & 2.00pm – 4.00pm
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery
The Art Club focuses on printing, using block printing and mono-printing techniques on paper and fabric. Pre-booked sessions for children aged 3 – 6 years old, maximum 25 children per session, all children must be accompanied by an adult. £2.50 for materials.

Leicester Vintage Festival
Saturday 23rd June (1.00pm – 5.00pm) & Sunday 24th June (12noon – 5.00pm)
Abbey Pumping Station
Come and celebrate the vintage spirit of Leicester with steam engines, locos, classic vehicles, a myriad of collectables along with live music, craft stalls and the chance to ride on the museums very own Lenny the Loco. Join in the fun by wearing 20th century costume from Edwardian to Hippie and joining in the costume parade at 2.30pm. Throughout the weekend, the beam engines will be in steam, culminating in a spectacular sight at 3.30pm when three of the engines will be working in steam together, the only place in Europe where this can be seen. Refreshments available at the LMTA café, Adults £3.50 / accompanied children free (a small charge for train rides).

Suits & Saris: Clothing Swap Shop Day
Sunday 24th June

Bring your old clothes and swap them for something nearly new. What seems old and tired in your wardrobe could brighten up the corners of someone else’s. Come and enjoy a day of fantasy shopping! £1.00 for swap shop entry.
