The City Gallery and Regent College

The Cultural and Creative Ambassadors Project (CCA) supports cultural providers and schools in Leicester and Leicestershire to work in partnership, provide new learning opportunities and share best practice.

Please see below case studies as examples of the CCA activities.

The Big Draw

The City Gallery took part in the national programme 'The Big Draw' and through the CCA project engaged with a new and challenging way a group of students from Regent College.

Focussing on the exhibition 'The Grand Scheme of Things' by artist Susan Collis that explored trompe l’oiel effects, utilising high craft skills to recreate apparently ordinary objects.

The students firstly participated in a gallery talk and tour led by Learning Officer,
Lisa Jacques.

The students then shared their learning by leading the second session, exploring the technique of mark making, drawing with wire and creating rust prints.

These sessions encouraged the students to use the skills they had developed and to become confident in the gallery space.

The experience was thoroughly enjoyed by students, tutor and learning officer at The City Gallery;

"Thank you for such a great time, I really enjoyed myself as I'm sure everyone else did. This experience has been very interesting!" Katy - student.

"Thank you for helping me realise there is a kind of art for everyone!!" Stacey - student.

"Thanks Lisa, It was a really well organised workshop and the students got so much out of it." Jacqueline - Teacher.
