Belgrave Hall hosts a lively range of seasonal events and activities including garden open days and tours, family-friendly fun days, creative workshops and courses as well as the ever popular Good Food Fair in September.

2014 Events

Open garden days: April – September 2014
Every Wednesday and the first full weekend of the month
11am – 4.30pm
Belgrave Hall Gardens

The beautiful historic walled gardens of Belgrave Hall are open free of charge to the public every Wednesday and the first full weekend of the month from April to
the end of September.

Visitors are invited to stroll around the rock, water, woodland and formal gardens to discover the unusual plants and shrubs that grow here. The gardens change with the seasons, so every month there will be something new to enjoy including colourful flower beds, fragrant Edwardian roses and ancient mulberry trees.

Games like croquet are provided and visitors are encouraged to bring picnics,
sketch pads or just a book to read!

School and community groups are particularly welcome to attend open garden days. For more information contact Belgrave Hall on 0116 229 8181.

     

Belgrave bees, bugs and butterflies
Wednesday 23 July
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Lots of small creatures make Belgrave Hall gardens their home. Find out more about them on our big bee, bug and butterfly hunt. Take part in our special nature activities or get your face painted like a bee or butterfly. Lots of fun craft activities to do and take home! Free admission / £2.50 for activities and £1.50 for face painting.

Teddy bear’s picnic & pastimes
Wednesday 30 July
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

If you visit the hall today you’re sure for a nice surprise as today the teddy bears have their picnic. Bring your favourite teddy and pack a family picnic to enjoy on the lawns. Take a stroll to the woods and see the bear trail, join in bear games,
competitions, storytelling and craft activities. Free admission / £2.50 for activities.

The best do of the year
Saturday 2 August
11am – 4.30pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

WEA Talk: The Best Do of the Year 11am – 12.30pm
Come and hear how people in Belgrave spent their leisure time in the past, from pubs and cinemas to punting on the river, illegal gambling in the fields, and the Belgrave Wake and Flower Show. Bring along a picnic to enjoy on the lawns

The great Belgrave garden party
Wednesday 6 August
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Croquet on the lawn, afternoon tea in our vintage tea room, ice-creams and a picnic – recreate a traditional English summer’s day in the gardens of Belgrave Hall. Entertainment will be provided with Punch and Judy shows and a local concert band. Follow themed garden trails and make summer-inspired children’s crafts from a bygone era. Free admission / £2.50 for activities.

Birds and mini beasts nature day
Wednesday 13 August
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Find out who lives in Belgrave Hall gardens and see if you can spot the birds and mini beasts who live there. Take part in a fantastic nature day delivered in partnership with the RSPB. Have fun making bird masks, wrist flappers and birdfeeders to take home. Garden trails and storytelling in the hall. Free admission / £2.50 for activities.


Fairies and superheroes
Wednesday 20 August
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Today is the perfect day to dress up! Fairies and superheroes are invited to fly down to Belgrave Hall and join our giant parade around the garden. Make magical creations to take home and follow the special trails around the garden. Free admission / £2.50 for activities.

 

Heritage Open Days: Glimpses of Belgrave
Friday 12 and Sunday 14 September

Find out more about the Belgrave area by taking a guided tour or come along to an illustrated talk that will give you a fascinating insight into this historic part of Leicester.

Belgrave Hall and Gardens will be open on both days between 11am – 4.30pm. WEA Talk: Glimpses of Belgrave 1pm – 2pm. Free event, to book your place on the WEA talk contact Visit Leicester on 0116 299 4444.

WEA Course: Leicester and World War I

The Belgrave Hall Good Food Fair
Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September
11am – 4pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Join us for the 9th year of this popular food fair. Part of British Food Fortnight, the event offers organic food, drinks, preserves, bakery and a range of tasty treats. Enjoy eating on-site or take home. Meet some of our local producers and take part in our talks. Adults £2.50

A traditional Christmas at Belgrave Hall
Saturday 13 December
11am – 5pm
Belgrave Hall & Gardens

Enjoy the charms of a traditional Christmas with seasonal entertainment from yesteryear alongside delicious festive treats. Explore the hall decked out with holly and ivy and pick up unique Christmas presents in the gift fair. Local choirs and musicians will get everyone into the festive spirit ready for candlelit carols in the gardens. Seasonal children’s crafts. Family £8.00 (up to 5), adults £3.50. children / concessions £2.50 adults £3.50.
