Weddings at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery

Celebrate your special day amongst the beautiful art collections at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery.

The staff at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery will endeavour to make your special day a success. Please see below our Weddings brochure available to download, for further information or to discuss your requirements further, please contact 0116 225 4900 / museums@leicester.gov.uk

The museum is an approved venue for civil and wedding ceremonies and renewing of wedding vows. The ceremonies take place in the main art gallery, first opened to the public in 1876 and has a seating capacity of up to 180 guests.

The Victorian architecture and interior design of the gallery is magnificent and the moulding of the beautiful ceiling portrays a colour scheme of cornflower blue and gold which offers an overall feeling of romance to the special day.

This elegant building located on the picturesque New Walk was designed by Joseph Hansom in 1837. Originally the Leicester Proprietary School, it became a museum in 1849. Since then the museum has steadily grown to become a major regional venue housing temporary exhibitions and Leicester's collections.

The changing displays feature works from 16th to the 21st centuries. Showing the brightest and best of the permanent collection, key works range from powerful 20th century artists such as Francis Bacon and Peter Doig and the Old Masters.

The Art Gallery has full access for wheelchair users. Guide dogs are welcome and there is a hearing loop system within the gallery.
