Conservation Tasks

Volunteering really makes a difference

Parks Services have teamed up with the Groundwork trust to hold regular conservation days around Leicester Parks.  These will be held through the city on a range of sites, from nature areas to formal parks.  Tasks could include anything from planting marsh plants to laying natural pathways.  All the tasks however have one thing in common, they will all benefit your local area for both people and wildlife.

It is hoped that the link with Groundwork will help to encourage people to take a more active roll in their local parks.  The conservation days will also help to highlight how important our urban parks are for wildlife and how much bio diversity there is within Leicester's green spaces.

You can turn up to any event, but we prefer people to book so we know how many people to expect.  On the day of the events we will provide a lift in the minibus from the following pick-up points;

9.15am - Groundwork Leicester and Leicestershire car park, Western Park

9.40am - The Newarke, outside the phone boxes, or you can just come along to the relevant site.

Please call Groundwork on 0116 222 0222 or 0116 222 0235 to book or for more information.

Get Stuck In

Volunteers book in advance with Groundwork.  They are provided with all the equipment they need  and instruction on how to use any tools.  The sessions usually run from around 10am to 4pm, with plenty of tea breaks.  It gives you the opportunity to not only have an active roll in improving an area, but also to learn about habitats, wildlife, and methods of conservation.  Be prepared to step into waders, and learn some real hands on conservation techniques.  There will also be the chance to take part in less physical tasks such as litter picking and some shrub clearance.

Conservation Days are run every Tuesday on various parks throughout the city, contact Groundwork 0116 222 0222 or 0116 222 1601 to find out which park or nature area is on the schedule for future weeks.

Conservation Days are run every Thursday at Watermead Country Park South, pick up the mini bus, as shown above or meet at 10.00am in the car park at the end of Alderton Close, LE4 7RN (Car park next to the Mammoth)
