Humberstone Park Bowls Club

The club was first established in 1929 as a men only bowling club, after the land, known as Meadow House Estate, was purchased by the Leicester City Council from Mr T Guy Paget for £10,000 in1927.  Accommodation was at first very sparse and as the country was entrenched in a slump period with mass unemployment, there was no money spare for improvements.  In 1932 with the national situation improved, it was agreed to upgrade facilities, resulting in the small brick pavilion the club now operates from.

Now welcoming lady members, the club celebrated it's 75th Anniversary in 2004, and provided the first president of the City Parks Association when Mr H E Thompson took office in 1949.  Mr W White has the distinction of having held the presidency in 1960 whilst a member of the Spinney Hill Park Bowls Club and again in 1971 a a member of the Humberstone Park Bowls Club.

The club is situated on Humberstone Park at the Uppingham Road side to the park, close to the Cafe, with car parking facilities.

The green supports 6 good quality rinks which are used regularly throughout the season for matches in the North East Leicester Triples League, along with local and domestic knockout cup competitions.  Besides this, casual bowling is welcomed at the following times:-

Daily 11am - dusk

Excepting Thursday and Saturday afternoons, when matches are played.

New members are welcomed at any level of experience as practice and advise can be arranged.
