Mowmacre Bowls Club

In 1984 a group of people including Alec McNiven, Lew Raven, Derek Green, Gary Greenwood, Winnie Thornton, Pat Hipwell and Bert Woollerton, met with the idea of starting a bowls club using the old British Shoe Machinery Company's bowling green.  It was decided to call the club after the area of the city it was situated, hence Mowmacre Bowls Club and Bert Woollerton became the first president.

The club purchased some short mat bowls carpets and began playing indoors during the first winter, building up to the summer opening.  The club has seen changes to facilities over the years with 2007 bringing about a new community provision for use by the bowls club.

As a mixed club we welcome anyone wanting to play bowls with practice sessions on Wednesday evenings and matches on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
