Leicester Croquet Club

Dr Lawrence Whittaker, founder member of the Croquet Club, being interviewed by Radio Leicester

The Leicester Croquet Club was founded at Victoria Park in 1985 with the encouragement of the City Council.  Following expansion, the club moved to Mowmacre and then to Desford.  In 2003, the club returned to Victoria Park Bowling Green and now have about 30 members.  The club competes in the East Midlands Association Croquet and Golf Croquet leagues, and over the years have produced two winners of the All England Handicap and had team successes in national competitions.  Most of the current members are in the early stages of learning the game and we offer a course for absolute beginners each spring.  The picture shows Dr Lawrence Whittaker, founder member of the Croquet Club, being interviewed by Radio Leicester in 2006.
