Orienteering

Orienteering is a challenging outdoor adventure sport enjoyed by people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. New for 2008, some parks in Leicester have a range of permanent orienteering courses from easy to moderate standard suitable for toddlers, children and adults, which allow you to try orienteering as a family at the time when it suits you.  If you decide to have a go then you need to buy a map:

Abbey Park & Castle Hill Country Park: 0116 222 1000

Evington Park & Arboretum: 0116 273 3912

Knighton Park: 0116 229 3638

Watermead Country Park South: 0116 229 3632

The courses are normally named after colours of the rainbow and are graded from easy to moderate.  As you build confidence, you can move from the White through Yellow to Orange and Green.

Leicestershire Orienteering Club (LEI) runs an event every week in the summer and alternate weeks in the winter.  At these events you will be able to get help on how to improve your skills. For further information visit www.leioc.org.uk

If you are looking for an orienteering challenge for your school or youth group, then the Regional Development Officer of British Orienteering pauline@britishorienteering.org.uk is the best person to contact.
