Leicester & District Scale Model Boat Club

Leicester & District Scale Model Boat Club
The Leicester & District Scale Model Boat Club was originally known as the Stoney Cove Radio Control Model Boat Club but changed its name when it moved to Abbey Park in June 1977. The Club meets every Sunday afternoon throughout the year, (although sometimes the ice on the lake is too thick for our boats to handle). There are also mid-week social evenings, held locally.

We are very active in promoting the hobby and fundraising, mostly for the RNLI (lifeboats), where we often help out with displays etc at organised shows as well holding our own fund raising events. The Club also holds various competitions at the lake on Sunday’s, including Yacht raising, Scale Steering events and Fun Fast Electric’s, all of which draw a good crowd of onlookers.

We are always ready to give advice or information to anyone who may enquire at the lakeside. Many of the members are delighted when someone shows an interest in one of their models and often go into great detail about the construction, history and working life of the real vessel the model was based on.

To abide by Park Regulations, we do not use internal combustion engines in our models, although there are a few steam driven models, mostly they are electrically powered, by batteries and motors, this being much more Eco-friendly anyway. Anyone wishing to join the Club may do so by visiting the lake on a Sunday afternoon or completing an application form which, are held at model boat shops. Membership is limited to seventy people.
