The Friends of Evington Park and Village Green formed in 2007 from two separate groups. Their elected committee meet regularly both on a formal and informal basis with Parks Services staff and other professionals and park users/members. The group work with Parks Services in developing good sporting and play environments, preserving and developing natural and garden habitats as well as supporting various events.
In practice, this means the 'Friends of' are involved with writing bids, encouraging membership (which is free), fundraising, helping with or running events, doing research and consultations and assisting with or organising various projects. They also do some gardening.
Projects so far:-
Completed an under 7's play area on Evington Village Green, funded by a 90% grant from Biffawards.
Completed the Burnaby Gardens in Evington Park, funded by Awards for All and the National Lottery.
Developed and maintains a 9 foot diameter flower bed on Evington Village Green with initial funding from a Community Champions grant.

The next project will be for more play equipment aimed at the 7 - 14 year olds on Evington Village Green.
There are many events in Evington Park, for the 'Friends of' to take the lead ro support, the May Day Dancing event being the one they are most proud of.
