Evington Park

Autumn view on Evington Park

The Common, Evington

Only two miles away from the City centre, Evington Park has the tranquil atmosphere of the country estate it once was. The 44 acres of parkland include attractive floral displays and a wide variety of trees. The Burnaby Gardens, at the rear of the House, has recently been refurbished.

Trees are the main feature of Evington Park and you will see fine examples of English Oak, Chestnut and a new avenue of 22 Elms.  You will also find rare Gingko as well as mature Beech trees.   In the spring, the Rhododendron and Azalea beds surrounded by various shrubs are a delight.

There are large grassed areas suitable for ball games.  For children there is a special ‘Steps to Nature’ carved tree, the 'Tree of Life' carved totem pole, a wooden snail bench and a recently refurbished play area.  There are wild life ponds and you can also have fun spotting the animals, birds and butterflies, which live in the park.

The park is included in the Passport to Parks scheme - can you find the plaque?

The Romans brought Mulberry trees to northern Europe and grew them for their fruit which ripen here in late August.  The Black Mulberry at Evington Park is thought to have been planted in 1836, the year the house was built.
