Whatever your age, it is important to tailor your daily/weekly active routine to fit your own level of ability and personal needs. Most people with illnesses or disabilities can take part in moderate exercise programmes &/or activities. All of the Leicester city Council leisure centres' offer activities for those over 50. From swimming, badminton and outdoor walking to arm chair and tea dances, there are a range of different ways to keep fit, meet new people and most importantly... Have Fun!
Not only are there activities designed to keep you fit and active, they also provide a great opportunity to socialise and meet up with friends. Some of the 50 plus groups also organise day trips, social event sand even enjoy holidays together.

Feeling like you've been working all your life without reward? Why don't you join the Leicester City council leisure centre and enjoy their main activities for Free!
If you are over 60 and live within the Leicester City boundaries you have unlimited free access to our Lifestyle Fitness Suite, Public swimming, Aerobics classes (including Yoga, Pilates, Aqua and many more) and racquet sports (badminton, table tennis or squash).
The Leicester City Council sport services reflects the changing focus within leisure to support the older generation to keep active. We are highlighting the fact we are not just for the young and fit, but those with a drive to improve their overall health and therefore prolong a healthy and active lifestyle.
Despite the withdrawal of free swim funding by the Government, we are pleased to confirm that Leicester City residents aged 60 and over will continue to receive all activities including swimming, free of charge at Leicester City Council sports facilities.

The scheme is designed to help those who have medical conditions/physical ailments or simply need to make drastic changes to reduce the onset future medical conditions.
The scheme is available for referral by all the GP surgeries in Leicestershire and does not cost for the referral. Just ask your surgery / doctor for information on how to enrol onto the scheme.
Once on the scheme your Active referral instructor will take you through a step by step guide as to how to achieve your goals and give you advice on diet and nutrition.

Tackling obesity and encouraging regular exercise is one of the key themes of Healthy Leicester - a new campaign that aims to help improve the health of the city's population.
Healthy Leicester (which has the backing of the city's Primary Care Trust (PCT) and the Leicester City Council) will provide people with the information they need to change their behaviour and improve their health, whilst helping to address the serious public health issues facing the city.
