Kids Courses at Leicester Leys Leisure Centre

NICAS Courses

Our indoor courses start with NICAS, National Indoor Climbing Achievement Scheme which is a national proficiency scheme to develop and accredit the skills of indoor climbers.

The scheme is our principle training programme, designed to promote best practice and provide a structure for complete novices through to experienced indoor climbers. The scheme is open to any one from age 7 and upwards.

The aims of the scheme are:

  • To develop climbing movement skills and improve levels of ability.

  • To learn climbing rope-work and how to use equipment safely.
  • To develop risk assessment and risk management skills in the sport

  • To develop teamwork and trust with a climbing partners.

  • To develop a deeper understanding of the sport.

  • To provide a record of personal achievement.

  • To point the way to further pathways in climbing.
