Leicester
has the currently undisputed claim to have opened the country's first
information centre in 1934. This was situated on Horsefair Street.
Over
the years the city has an unbroken provision of a staffed physical Tourism
Information Centre (TIC) and for a number of years operated two. Moving to
Every Street in 1994, Leicester has always been nationally recognised as being
at the leading edge of TIC provision, is still the only TIC to be ABTA bonded
and has been nominated for and successful in regional and national excellence
awards probably more times than any other location in the country.
Leicester is steeped in history and can offer its
visitors both from Leicester and beyond a unique experience. It has a rich and diverse culture, with a retail heart and a busy market
place connecting with an old town and heritage, waterside and green spaces.
The
Visit Leicester Centre, which opens in early September 2012, replacing the
current TIC on Every Street, will continue to provide both visitors from
Leicester and tourists visiting Leicester an excellent quality assured service
so visitors can find out more about Leicester
