REACHING OUT!
Celebrating Leicester's international twinning links
The City Council will be hosting an event to promote Leicester's international twinning links. The event will take place on 16th, 18th and 19th July 2011 at Southfields Library and will be open from 10am to 3pm on each day.
Visitors to the exhibition will be able to find out about Leicester's international twinning links, the work of the twinning organisations and the contributions they make to the One Leicester priorities, particularly around promoting skills and enterprise, community cohesion, investing in children and the environment.
The event features craft, dance and story telling workshops for all ages, and there will be an opportunity to sample foods from different countries and take part in a quiz to win a fairtrade prize!
Leicester has a thriving and dynamic set of twinning links around the world. The city has partnerships with Strasbourg in France, Krefeld in Germany and the Bulgarian town of Haskovo, all of which promote people to people exchanges.
The Nicaraguan link with Masaya increases understanding of development issues while the link with Rajkot in India reflects the country of origin for many of Leicester's residents who have connections with the State of Gujarat. In the case of Chongqing in China, the focus is on business and economic links.
Reaching Out! is a free exhibition and interactive event to celebrate Leicester's International Twinning links. It takes place in the theatre space at Southfields Library on Sat 16, Mon 18 and Tue 19 July from 10 am to 3pm each day.
