Workforce Development Unit

Welcome to the Workforce Development Unit Internet Site

The aim of the Workforce Development Unit is that:

People, children and families who use social care services in Leicester know the workers and managers are skilled and knowledgeable. All staff treat people with respect and assist them to make choices and have control over the support they receive so that they stay safe, improve their lives and achieve their aspirations.

What do we do?

We meet with managers to understand what their team or organisation aims to deliver, and the skills and knowledge needed. We identify the gaps that exist now and what might be needed in the future and devise workforce development plans. We advise on the range of qualifications from induction, NVQ, social work, post qualifying, through to management awards and on best practice in managing people. We deliver or arrange different kinds of learning activities that include coaching, mentoring, training events, workshops, briefings, conferences, practice learning, workplace assessment, e-learning, distance learning and learning sets.

We advise individual staff on development opportunities to progress their own career. We include people who use services and carers in our learning activities as trainers and participants. We work with City Council staff and those employed in private and voluntary social care organisations and partner agencies like health, the police, and Connexions.
