How to apply for a training course organised by the Workforce Development Unit -
Many of the training courses run by WDU can now be booked through MyView. However, some events run for specific teams or target audiences are not available on MyView and places on all events can still be requested using the WDU Internal Training Application Form.
MyView booking:
If you cannot see the event you are interested in on MyView then please apply by using the WDU application form - see below. To book a course via MyView:-
A). Login to MyView using your payroll number and password.
B). Click the “Request Training” link
C). You can enter some keywords into the “search” field or you can search by the course type, or start date. Click on “Search”
D). Click the Course Title that you are interested in to look at further details.
E). Any dates available will be shown, with details of the venue, time, and tutor. You can click on the date to see more details. To book a place on this event enter a “Reason for Request” and click “Submit”
F). If no date is available or the dates shown are not conveniant, you can request to be added to the waiting list. Click “Non Scheduled Request” again enter a “Reason for Request” and click “Submit”
G). Your request will now be sent to your manager for authorisation.
H). When Workforce Development receives your request we will send you, and your line manager, confirmation that you have a place on the course. You must then keep that date free to attend.

Paper applications: The Workforce Development Unit will continue to accept paper applications for all courses. To apply:-
A). Complete an ‘Internal Training Application Form’
B). This needs to be completed as fully as possible as it helps us to ensure you are on the right training.
C). You must include your Payroll Number as ResourceLink, the integrated HR/Payroll system used by the Council, uses this to distinguish between individuals – applications without payroll numbers will be returned
D). Your application must be authorised by your line manager – this means that either the manager signs a hard copy of the form (to be posted or faxed) or emails an electronic copy of the form. The Workforce Development Unit will not accept direct applications that have not been authorised by the manager. Email applications must come from your manager.
E). When Workforce Development receives your application we will send you, and your line manager, confirmation that you have a place on the course. You must then keep that date free to attend.
F). Where no place is available you will be offered an alternative date or added to a waiting list. Where the waiting list becomes long enough to run another course, we will endeavour to arrange this or take it into account in future planning.
In addition, Workforce Development publishes a regular supplement called The Learning Times Supplement, which includes details of the courses and dates in the forthcoming period. It also includes details of multi-agency learning events. This is available on our internet site and via Keeping In Touch.
Please note that this application process only applies to training courses organised by the Workforce Development Unit. Details of internal training courses (including IT and H&S) provided by City Learning, the corporate learning & development team, can be found at their Intranet Site.

A). To apply for a training event being organised by the Workforce Development Unit you need to complete an ‘Training Application Form - External Organisations’
B). This needs to be completed as fully as possible as it helps us to ensure you are on the right training
C). Your application must be signed by yourself and your manager – this means that either the authorising manager signs a hard copy of the form (to be posted or faxed) or emails an electronic copy of the form.
D). When Workforce Development receives your application, we will check that you are eligible to take up a place. If so, we will then send you confirmation that you have a place on the course. You must then keep that date free to attend.
We will let you know if you are not eligible for a place and why.
E). Where no place is available you will be offered an alternative date or added to a waiting list. Where the waiting list becomes long enough to run another course, we will endeavour to arrange this or take it into account in future planning.

For Leicester City Council Staff Members Only
If you need to apply for financial assistance to attend a conference or external training not organised by Leicester City Council then you must do so using the Request for Financial Assistance to Attend a Conference and External Training Form.
You can request financial assistance to pay for:-
The form needs to be authorised by your line manager and the relevant head of service or divisional director.
You must not book yourself onto the conference / training prior to authorisation.
The criteria and procedure are outlined on the form.

For Leicester City Council Staff Only
You should use your mileage form, expenses claim form or Myview to claim expenses for training. The Council will reimburse expenses incurred in attending training if over and above your usual costs.
For example if you attend a course on a day you do not usually work and incur additional child care cost over and above what you usually pay, you will be eligible to claim for these costs.
Your time to attend should be agreed with your manager as part of your working week, flexi or TOIL.
