To learn about our communication agenda and why we have a Leicester Symbols Project.

To learn about how to make the written word more accessible.  To enable us to access symbols, which are recognised throughout Leicester City and County when using the written word.

Title: Introduction to Communication (1 day course)

 

Dates: 12 December 2011 (for the Independant and

            Voluntary Sector ONLY)

 

Target Group: People who work with or care for people with learning disabilities. This event is suitable for people in the above role who work in the independent & voluntary sector.

 

Learning outcomes:  (what you could expect to achieve)

To understand- what communication is, what communication does, what affects communication, legislation involved, sources of help.

To explore our own communication skills and the way that we interact with each other.

To identify barriers to communication.

To consider different ways of communicating with people with learning disabilities.

 

NB This course may be a suitable introduction to Communication for new staff in Child Care Services who work with young people with learning disabilities.
