Lots of case scenarios to work through with students to gain an understanding of social work.  You’ll gain an understanding of the history of social work and some of the recent broad policy directions.

Chapter 5 gives a very useful overview of the process for assessing students’ practice which helps to gain an understanding of the overall purpose of supervising students.
