Safeguarding Adults (Multi-Agency)

The following courses are provided by the Workforce Development Unit. Click on the links below to view aims and objectives for each course. We have also provided information on on-line learning that is available, and any learning materials that you may find useful.

Training Event

Safeguarding Adults Alerters

 

Learning Outcomes / Competencies 1 - 8: (what you would expect to achieve)

Understand the definition of an adult who may be vulnerable to abuse, as defined by ‘No Secrets’ (DoH 2000).

Understand the definition of abuse and its different types, as defined by ‘No Secrets’ (DoH 2000).

Recognise the signs of abuse.

Understand how to access the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Multi-Agency Policy and Procedure for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults from Abuse.

Understand the importance of whistle-blowing procedures.

Understand the importance of creating a safe environment in order to minimise the risk of abuse.

Understand their role as an alerter as defined within the local policy and procedures, including how to report concerns of abuse using appropriate systems.

Understand related legislation.

 

Training Event

Safeguarding Adults Training for Alerters Trainers

 

Learning Outcomes: (what you would expect to achieve)

Display the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver Alerters to in-house staff.

Safeguarding Adults Referrers

 

Learning Outcomes / Competencies 9 - 16: (what you would expect to achieve)

Understand what action to take when an allegation of abuse is reported to them, according to local policy and procedures.

Know how to support staff and people who use services who report concerns of abuse.

Know how to support staff or people who use services who are alleged to have committed abuse.

Explain the relationship between the local policy and procedure and internal disciplinary procedures.

Understand the importance of recording and documenting all information appropriate to any allegation and investigation in accordance with the local policy and procedure and relevant internal guidance.

Understand and use relevant recruitment processes as appropriate.

Identify and minimise potential risks following a disclosure or allegation of abuse.

Understand the principles of information sharing in accordance with the local policy and procedure, relevant legislation and relevant internal guidance.

Training Event

Safeguarding Adults Referral-Takers

 

Learning Outcomes / Competencies 17 - 22: (what you would expect to achieve)

Understand and use the referral-receiving process contained within the local policy and procedure.

Know how to gather information from referrers in order to assess potential risks in any Safeguarding Adults referral.

Understand the importance of recording and documenting all information appropriate to any allegation and investigation in accordance with the local policy and procedure and relevant internal guidance .

Understand the principles of information sharing in accordance with the local policy and procedure, relevant legislation and relevant internal guidance. Know what action to take in response to a referral being received in accordance with local policy and procedure.

Engage in a positive multi-agency approach to Safeguarding Adults.

Safeguarding Adults Investigators

 

Learning Outcomes / Competencies 23 - 29:  (what you would expect to achieve)

Understand and use all aspects of the local policy and procedures.

Understand the legal context of Safeguarding Adults, measures available to protect adults who may be vulnerable to abuse and how the local policy and procedures relate to other policy, guidance and legislation.

Understand the roles and responsibilities of all agencies involved in the investigative process.

Understand the importance of recording and documenting all information appropriate to any allegation and investigation in accordance with the local policy and procedure and relevant internal guidance.

Understand the principles of information sharing in accordance with the local policy and procedure, relevant legislation and relevant internal guidance. Conduct investigative / assessment activities in accordance with local policy and procedure, including identifying and managing risk factors.

Engage in a positive multi-agency approach to Safeguarding Adults.

Training Event

Safeguarding Adults Managing the Process

 

Learning Outcomes / Competencies 30 - 32:  (what you would expect to achieve)

Know how to convene and chair an Adult Protection Conference.

Understand the roles and responsibilities of all agencies involved in the multi-agency Safeguarding Adults process, with a focus upon the role of the Local Authority and Team Manager.

Make sound and consistent decisions as part of implementing the local policy and procedure.
