Safeguarding Children

Safeguarding Children training is changing.  There is now a building block approach which means that you have to do courses sequentially i.e. do Level 2 before you do Level 3 courses. 

The diagram below may help to clarify and lists courses provided by the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) & the Workforce Development Unit.

Further information including aims & objectives, dates, and booking details can be found for each training course at each level.

Level 1 - Safeguarding Induction

All new starters in an organisation need to undertake some Safeguarding training.

• If you work for Leicester City Council, then you will receive information at your Corporate Induction. Click here for further information (Internal staff only).

 

• Or you must complete the Safeguarding People e-Learning through the Leicester Learning Pool website.

  
   

• Other organisations will provide some information at your induction, speak to your line manager for more information.

Level 2 - Safeguarding Children Basic Awareness

If you work with or have regular contact with parents, carers, and / or children & young people then you need to do a Basic Awareness & Confidence Building course.

How can I access Basic Awareness Training?

You can access this training in the following ways: -

• Before attending the Level 2b training, you will need to complete the Level 2a e-Learning and Assessment through the Leicester Learning Pool website.

 

 

• The Workforce Development Unit provides a one day Level 2b course for Leicester City Council social care workers. Click here for further information.
  

 

• Common Induction Training Programme (CITP) to meet CWDC induction standards. This is provided by Adult Skills and Learning, f

  or new staff in the Children's workforce. Click here for further information (internal staff only).

  
  

 

• For organisations in the private and voluntary sectors, the Local Safeguarding Children Board provide a one day course.

 Level 3 - Working Together

If you work regularly with Children & Young People or Parents & Carers then you need to undertake the one day Safeguarding Children / Working Together course.

Please Note: You must have completed the Level 2 Basic Awareness course before attending this training.

How can I access Working Together Training?

Level 4 - Working Together in Complex Safeguarding Situations

If you are a designated or named professional and / or you are responsible for undertaking Section 47 enquires then you need to attend Safeguarding Children - Working Together in Complex Safeguarding Situations.

Please Note: You must have completed the Level 2 Basic Awareness, and the Level 3 Working Together courses before attending this training.

 
How can I access Safeguarding Children - Working Together in Complex Safeguarding Situations Training?

• The Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) provide a two day Working Together in Complex Safeguarding Situations course. Click here further information.

• If you are a social worker who will undertake safeguarding investigations, then you also need to attend a Safeguarding Children Investigators course. 

Level 5 - Managers & Supervisors Training

If you are a manager or supervisor then you need to undertake this level 5 training.
